Worcester Warriors Information
The Premiership rugby team Worcester Warriors is based at Sixways Stadium in Worcestershire. The Worcester Warriors stadium has a capacity of over 11,000, which is the third-smallest capacity among current Premiership rugby clubs.
The team had played at a couple of venues before that, Pitchcroft and Bevere, before the move to Sixways happened in 1975.
Worcester Warriors play in a gold and blue kit. Their biggest rival in the Premiership is Gloucester due to locality, but they also have a big rivalry with Rotherham due to previous campaigns in the Championship.
Worcester Warriors History
Founded in 1871 and playing their first-ever match that same year, Worcester Warriors had a long journey to the top tier of English rugby. The team’s professional career started in the Midlands 2 West and they were relegated after just their second season there.
Worcester clawed their way back up the English tiers over the following seven years, earning promotion to the National League 1 in 1997.
The Premiership debut for Worcester Warriors occurred at the start of the 2004/05 season. It was a ninth place finish that they recorded for that campaign. They had a stay of six seasons in the top tier before their first relegation.
The Warriors immediately earned a promotion from the Championship to return to the top flight for a stay that lasted just three campaigns before another relegation. The club returned to the Premiership for the 2015/16 season and has remained there, despite not having finished higher than ninth since their return.
Included in the Worcester Warriors Hall of Fame are former captains Pat Sanderson and Jonathan Thomas, along with Cornell du Preez, Duncan Weir, Duhan van der Merwe, Josh Adams and Rory Sutherland.
