Sale Sharks Information
Sale Sharks have a long history and they are one of the oldest clubs in England, having been formed in the mid-1800s. Their home is in Salford, Greater Manchester, with their home ground being known as the AJ Bell Stadium, into which they moved in 2012.
Sale’s first permanent home was Heywood Road, where they spent almost a century from 1905. In between the two aforementioned grounds, Sale played some seasons at Edgeley Park, home of Stockport County football club. The kit colours of Sale are predominantly blue, black and white.
Sale Sharks History
In 1999, the club was rebranded to the Sale Sharks, long after they were founded in 1861 in the North of England. They began their professional life in the Courage League Division 1 but were relegated in the inaugural season and spent six seasons in Division 2 before climbing back to the top.
Sale Sharks Premiership rugby history started in the inaugural season in 1997/98, where they claimed a seventh place finish. Their big breakthrough came in the 2004/05 season when they finished third to get through to the semi-finals for the first time, although they lost there. Sale built on that progress during the following season.
A first Sale Sharks Premiership rugby title came their way in 2006 when they beat the Leicester Tigers at Twickenham. The Salford club has never been relegated from the Premiership. On the European front, they are two-time winners of the Challenge Cup and boast former players such as Charlie Hodgson, Jason Robinson and Mark Cueto.
