Harlequins Information
The home ground of the Harlequins is the Twickenham Stoop after buying the land in 1963. The Londoners started as a nomadic club, playing at a variety of venues during the early years of the club’s formation.
The Stoop, named after former player and club president Adrian Stoop, is located very close to Twickenham, the home of England’s international team.
The Harlequins are one of the founding members of the RFC and are steeped in history. They play in their distinctive shirts of different coloured quarters, brown, grey, magenta and blue with green sleeves. They are commonly just called the Quins.
Harlequins History
The Harlequins were born out of The Hampstead Football Club in 1866. A year later, the club underwent a split, with half of the members going on to form what is now the Wasps Premiership team, while the remaining members were renamed as the Harlequins.
Courage League Division 1 participation never yielded a title for Harlequins, but a different story emerged in the Premiership.
The Quins were one of the founding teams of the new Premiership-era in 1997/98. The Harlequins Premiership Rugby span lasted eight seasons in the top tier, before suffering relegation. They played in the National Division One for just one season before regaining their Premiership status, which they have held since.
The first Harlequins Premiership Rugby title came in 2012 when they beat Leicester Tigers in the final. In the 2020/21 season, the Quins would have their second taste of success as they upset the then reigning champions Exeter in the Premiership final.
Some great internationals have represented the Harlequins, including Mike Brown, Will Carling, Will Greenwood, Jason Leonard, Brian Moore, Adam Jones and Zinzan Brooke.
